MAKE AN IMPACT

Many students experience science as reading, writing, and memorizing facts. We want to break down the walls to the lab so that they are doing science, creating their own experients and exploring possible solutions through fun, hands-on activities that create a positive foundation and fuel future participation in science.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a science major?

NO! Great volunteers can come from any background.  The most important qualities for success are an interest in actively engaging the students through asking questions, comfort leading a small group of students, enthusiasm towards the content, and flexibility with potential technical difficulties.  We encourage you to view your visit as an opportunity to learn and grow with the students!

When will I volunteer?

The Volunteer Placement Form has a list of visit times - simple choose the one(s) that work best for you!  We are running both after-school sessions (through the traditional Science Alliance) and in-class sessions (through Triple E), so there are many possibilities. We as for a commitment of 2 hours per week, for 5-6 weeks at a time for after-school visits, and 2 hours a month for the duration of the school year for in-class visits.  Specific information about each club will be sent out through emails. Contact us to join the alias!

What will I be teaching?
After a quick greeting and introduction, we split the class into four stations, each led by one or two volunteers. These stations are relatively straightforward, but we will provide you with a loose, flexible â€œscript" as a guide. For more information about the stations, check out Our Curriculum. When you sign up for a visit, we will contact you for a volunteer training which will prepare you for your visits!
